02 Diagnosis
What it usually turns out to be
Uneven browning is usually mechanical rather than electronic — a convection baffle that has worked loose, or a fan running slow. It is a cheap fault to find and an expensive one to guess at.
- A bake igniter drawing under spec. It still glows, so it looks fine, but it holds the gas valve open too long — that is the slow preheat and the thump when it catches.
- Cavity temperature drifting away from the dial, which is a calibration and sensor job, not a new oven.
- A latch motor jammed at the end of its travel after a self-clean cycle, which is why the door is still locked days later.
- A scorched pin or a ribbon connection after a power flicker. Worth checking before anybody sells you a control board.
